Starry Night
Description:
This project was inspired by Vincent van Goghs Starry Night. I glued tissue paper onto a black piece of construction paper. I got to glue the paper however I wanted to so I could create a picture that resembled Starry Night. Then once the glue had dried I cut out a setting that I wanted to place in front of my sky. I cut the setting out of more black construction paper and glued it on. I chose the snowy mountains because the colors of tissue paper I chose reminded me of the Northern Lights. I felt like mountains would be fitting for that setting. Finally, I colored white lines using an oil pastel to show movement. I also colored the tops of my mountains to make them look covered in snow.
Another part of this activity was to listen to a presentation about Vincent van Gogh and write three fun facts about him on a slip of paper.
Extension Activity:
A fun extension activity would be have the students write a creative narrative story using the setting they painted. I wouldn't tell the students about the story until they were done with the project. That way they will have to think harder about the story they will write. Then on the art project they can just be creative without worrying about what they need to write their story. This would then be a nice project to have out for parents to see along with their story they wrote about it.
