Elements and Principles



I chose this image I took when I was at home after a rain storm. This image represents space because when you look at the picture it seems like you can look far into the distance. The road gets smaller as you look further away. The trees in the distance are also smaller, which helps give the image depth.


This picture I took of my grandpa's puppies shows unity because all of the puppies are close to each other and are the same breed, color and size. 


This picture I took of the sunset over the lake shows value because there are many different shades of lightness and darkness. Next to the sunset the water is really orange and as it gets closer to the dock its much darker. 


This picture I took of the adorable boys I nanny shows emphasis because when looking at this picture your eyes automatically go to the boys looking at the water in their bright shirts. They are also off centered which makes them stand out even more compared to the background. 


The picture I chose for movement is a picture of my brother sliding into third base. This picture shows movement because of the dust that is flying in the air around his hands.

                                        Description - The topic of this project was printmaking and this was the lesson I taught. To begin this project the student colored in a circle from the inside out to create the background. Next they drew a design on a small piece of paper. Next they taped their paper to a small Styrofoam piece of paper and began to trace over it. Then they took off the paper and traced over their lines on the Styrofoam again. The students rolled paint over their Styrofoam and placed it on their paper. They rolled the back of the Styrofoam to transfer the paint. When they peeled back the Styrofoam the design was on their paper. They repeated the printing process three more times. Crayon and Oil Pastel

Description - We did a scratch art project with a snowy theme. First we drew our project onto a piece of paper. I drew a snowman and some kids sledding in the back to show depth. Then, we traced our drawing onto the scratch art sheet. After that I took the paper off and drew directly onto the scratch art. Extension activity-  An extension activity for this project could be using these sheets to have the students do math problems. It would be a fun and engaging way for them to work on their math skills. It is different so the students would automatically be excited to use it.

Starry Night

Description :  This project was inspired by Vincent van Goghs Starry Night. I glued tissue paper onto a black piece of construction paper. I got to glue the paper however I wanted to so I could create a picture that resembled Starry Night. Then once the glue had dried I cut out a setting that I wanted to place in front of my sky. I cut the setting out of more black construction paper and glued it on. I chose the snowy mountains because the colors of tissue paper I chose reminded me of the Northern Lights. I felt like mountains would be fitting for that setting. Finally, I colored white lines using an oil pastel to show movement. I also colored the tops of my mountains to make them look covered in snow.  Another part of this activity was to listen to a presentation about Vincent van Gogh and write three fun facts about him on a slip of paper.  Extension Activity:  A fun extension activity would be have the students write a creative narrative story...
