Coffee Filter Dot Project

Description:

Before beginning the activity we watched a video about dots. Then, I created these coffee filter dots using water paint, pastels, and crayons. This was an activity for us to see how the different types of drawing utensils interacted with one another. They didn't turn out as well as I wanted, they look a little messy.

Extension activity:

For an extension activity the students could use them in math to learn how to measure the distance and circumference of a circle. They could also do the same with the smaller circle in the middle. This way the students might be more engaged because they are measuring something they created. It's a way to make a boring topic more interesting.

You could also use them to learn about space and the planets. You can have students research the planet of their choice and try to paint them like a planet. Then hang them around the room in order from the sun. The students can also research facts about each and tape them to the back. It's more of an interactive way for the students to learn something interesting.
